The day Dani scored the first hat-trick for the U21s

On April 17th 1978 Spain beat Romania with a triple goal threat from the Basque striker

Nicknamed "The Worrior" for his ability to suddenly appear in the area and taking the rival's defense by surprise, Daniel Ruiz-Bazán Justa "Dani" was a legendary striker from Athletic Bilbao in the seventies and eighties of the past century.

His notable figures with the National Team with whom he played 25 matches, scoring ten goals and taking part in the 1978 Argentina World Cup, highlight his time with the U21s even more. 
 

His great performance did not go unnoticed by the Team Manager Ladislao Kubala

Dani defended the Spain shirt in one occasion in this category. He did so in Madrid's Vallecas stadium on April 17th 1977 under the orders of Gustavo Biosca and during the match against Romania, European Championship qualifier. 

The attacker managed to open the scoreboard ahead of the ten minutes of the match and converting a resume penalty sealing his third goal at the end of the match, becoming the first player to score a hat trick with the U21s. 

His great performance did not go unnoticed for the Manager Ladislao Kubala who would call up the Basque footballer in a friendly in Switzerland that same year, giving way to a successful pass from the U21s to the National Team.
