MATCH REPORT | Draw that brings in high hopes ahead of World Cup (1-1)

Cartagena (Región de Murcia) 17 Ene 2019
Spain displayed its talent and ambition in the first of its preparation friendlies for the Women's World Cup in France

After multiple chances on target, a draw with Belgium does not dampen the goos spirt of the Spanish Women's National Team debut in 2019.

Full of team spirit the Spanish side felt the warmth and support of the local fans. Spain quickly figured out how to face up against a stern Belgian side.

With five months to go for the World Cup, Jorge Vilda made changes in the starting line-up with Ivana Andrés in defense, Ángela Sosa and Nahikari García. A youthfull starting squad, which also included Andrea Sánchez Falcón on the left flank.

Aitana Bonmatí, alongside Torrecilla and Losada, as well as Corredera added to the structure of the whole squad, who were about to score on the verge of half-time.

Spain enjoyed several chances before Belgium scored a last-minute equalizer

Once the match resumed, Irene Paredes cut past the speedy Belgian forwards, whilst Vilda worked on moving players around in search of a home win.

Half a dozen substitutions, among which was Alba Redondo who wasted no time and saw Leila Ouahabi's cross, picking the ball mid-air, netting for the Spanish side.

With chances galore, the Spanish side was caught off-guard when Cayman scored a last-minute header, scoring the equalizer.

On Tuesday, 22nd January, the Spanish side faces USA. The current World Cup champions will be the following opponent in Alicante.
