MATCH REPORT | Spain book their place in the Euro Beach Soccer Cup final

Ciudad del Fútbol 30 Jul 2016
Spain picked up back-to-back victories against hosts Portugal and the Dutch to finish first in Group B

The hosts were beaten 4-3 in extra time by Spain, despite leading 2-1 going into the final period as Mario Narciso’s side looked on course for top spot.

However, Asensio and Moreira helped take the tie into extra-time where Carolina Gonzalez proved the hero, ensuring a Spanish win against the Dutch would take them to the final.

And it was captain Miron who came to the rescue for Joaquin Alonso’s charges in the final match of the day, as Spain left it late to snatch a 3-2 victory against the Netherlands.

Spain led through Asensio but were reeled in by the Dutch and trailed going into the final 12 minutes.

However, like in their defeat to the Swiss, Netherlands were undone by a late comeback as Spain’s skipper Miron scored twice to condemn the Dutch to the fifth-place play-off.

Spain will face Switzerland in the final of the inaugural Euro Beach Soccer Cup in Cascais on Sunday after topping their respective groups on Saturday.
