The Spanish side controlled the clash against Belgian side in the second match of the Cyprus Cup. A stopped penalty and plenty of chances did not, however, result in a goal

As the saying goes - the best defence is a good offence. That's Spain's football style which roughly translates to many chances, holding onto the ball and pressure on the rival. With two wins in the bag for Jorge Vilda's squad, the Belgian side looked for a rematch, but had to settle for a draw.

Spain kicked off against a rather calm Belgian side. The first clear chance: a header by Mari Paz Vilas, which the keeper had to react quickly to swerve or it would have become the opener of the game.

Opportunities came about for Alexia Putellas, who with a far shot on target went for a goal, and Ivana Andrés in a corner kick. Both without reaching the net.

After half time Vilda subbed in newcomers, the likes of Lucía García who made her debut with the Spanish side. True to their style, Spain did not mix it up and went for their true and tested philosophy of touch football. Jenni Hermoso missed out on a good chance in the second half.

Lucía García encouraged a penalty shot, but Mari Paz Vilas would be responsible. The Belgian keeper, like a cat, managed to stop the power shot and feeling threatened, the opponent closed up and relied on defending their corner for the rest of the game. Vilas would hold the last chance in her boots, with the ball hitting the woodwork.

Despite the draw Spain is still Group B leader and faces Czech Republic on Monday at 17:00 CET.
